UPDATE: Round 1 has started! Check out the bracket page in this spreadsheet! Hey everyone! It's once again time for our silliest contest format, the Joker Cup! We did our first edition of the Joker Cup in 2023, and by popular request we will do another one! So how does it work?
The Joker Cup is a mini tournament that consists of three rounds. Every player that signs up will be randomly assigned to groups of around 4 players. That group is then randomly assigned a ride to build, a theme to build in, and a modifier to make it more interesting! These themes and modifiers are sometimes pretty silly! For example, you could be tasked to build a Car Ride in a North Korea theme, where the vehicles are only allowed to drive in reverse! The maximum map size is 100 tiles, so you should be able to build an entry pretty quickly! Also, these rounds are meant to be a little bit silly and mostly just for fun, so there is no shame in losing!
For this year's edition, there will be three rounds instead of four. Also, in the second round the players will get two modifiers for their map, and in the third round players will get assigned three modifiers!
To join, you must sign up before the tournament starts! Write your name in the Participant List page of this spreadsheet, and ping Deurklink on our Discord server! In the linked spreadsheet you will also find all possible rides, themes and modifiers! You can also find the tournament bracket and deadlines for every round!
Rules
Rule 1: Each player will be randomly assigned to a group of 4 players. The group will receive a random ride, theme and modifier for their round. The 4 players will compete against each other.
Rule 2: At the end of the round, all discord members will rate every entry. Every entry will get 1 rating for the ride, and 1 rating for the overall looks. Votes you make in your own group will not be counted. The best 2 players of each group move to the next round. The voters will decide if you followed the theme and modifiers properly!
Rule 3: The building phase for every round will last approximately 17 days - After that there is a few days of voting, and the result announcement for that round!
Rule 4: For this contest, you are only allowed to use objects from the RCT1 and RCT2 base game and their official expansions, OpenRCT2-official objects, and custom objects that are included in the DKSO v2.5 bench. Custom objects that are not in the DKSO v2.5 bench are not allowed, so make sure you don't use those. You are also allowed to use a custom palette if you want. Some modifiers restrict certain objects from being used, so be sure to double check them!
Rule 5: Maximum map size is 100 tiles - this will be counted by multiplying the size of the two map edges. Black tiles in the map will not be subtracted
Rule 6: You cannot have any other opened rides besides the chosen ride, but they can be closed or in test mode. You are allowed to have opened shops / stalls.
Rule 7: Have fun!
How to join
Step 1: To join, you must sign up before the tournament starts! Write your name in the Participant List page of this spreadsheet, and ping Deurklink on our Discord server!
Step 2: When the contest has started and you have been assigned a ride, theme and modifier, build your map and decorate it!
Step 3: When you are done with your contest entry, go on Discord, and send the save file to me in a Private Message. For the name of the save file, I want you to simply use the name that you use on Discord. For example, if your discord name is therty, for the save file name, use therty.park. After you have sent the save file to me, I will look if it follows the rules, and I will check for anything you can still improve. You can resubmit your entry until the deadline of the round, even if I have already accepted it. Please deselect all unused custom objects before sending in the save file!
Step 4: Submit a story for others to read in the voting poll! You can do this by writing your story in a Private Message to Deurklink on Discord!
After the deadline has passed, I will put up a voting poll with all the entries. In this voting poll, everyone who is a member on my Discord, including you, will be able to rate all the other entries, and leave a short review.
When the voting period is over I will announce the results in a Youtube video!
Good luck, and have fun!
